I'm a Mum to 3 children of varying ages, and over the years I've had some experience in observing the health and safety measures in place for children.  One of particular note is the way hot food and drinks are served in public environments.

The serving trays carrying the hot teapots and crockery are often passed over a babies highchair or carried through a busy restaurant  (such as a soft play centre), with young children running about.

The regular serving trays have no lips, liquid wells, edges or much anti-slip material so with these observations and experiences in mind, I set about developing a prototype for a safety tray and called it 'Safe and Served.'

Safe and Served had a UK Registered Trademark and the concept had a Registered Design. It was intended to replace the standard tray when serving hot liquids and soups in catering venues or facilities. The product would be particularly beneficial to those most at risk from scalds.

Below is the design I came up with and it was pitched to a variety of restaurant chains and small cafes, including M&S and IKEA. The green inserts (pictured) could be changed to suit any branding.
